This is the peony grown by us and planted to perfection by Luciano Guibellei in the Laurent Perrier Garden at the 2009 Chelsea Flower Show. Since then it has been used many times at Chelsea, and all because its a tremendously good plant!
This deep blood red very early flowering semi double peony from the United States is one of our clear favorites. It certainly commands attention. The colour is as bold as some of the tulips and the golden stamens peek out from among the petals. Flowering will often be in the middle of May. May be as tall as 90cm, but rarely needs staking.
